Global Databases Ltd
Global Databases Ltd was formed in 1997 to provide a service to organisations
needing fast, robust, interactive web sites backed up by sophisticated databases.
Malcolm Moore (CEO)
Malcolm's early background was in the programming of real time military and
civil aviation messaging systems followed by many years of system
design and project management. Projects of all sizes covered
a variety of industries, including oil and gas, hospitals,
telecommunications and news broadcasting, with responsibilities
from specification, through design, building, testing and into
production, staff recruitment and user training.
After a period as an independent consultant, he joined Reuters and held
a directorship in one of its subsidiaries, a Forex Dealing Room systems
company. Later he moved into Reuters Editorial News department as the
Editorial Technical Manager with global responsibility for technical
strategy and news production databases.
Within Global Databases, Malcolm performs most of the database specification and
design together with the writing of applications. He also manages the day-to-day
work required to operate the business.
Brendan Whelan (Technical Director)
Brendan has a background in engineering and gained an MSc at
UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology)
for using computers in engine simulation.
After university, he joined Ricardo Consulting Engineers where he specialised in
engine simulation and finite element analysis. He spent several years developing programs for a wide range of
simulators e.g. oil and gas platforms, oil drilling, reciprocating
engines, mine sweepers and satellites.
He become an independent consultant in 1984, and has since worked as a
Project Manager, Designer and Developer on a range of applications.
He has over twenty five years experience in the development of databases, initially for use in the Oil industry, then in television
and for six years at Reuters.
Within Global Databases, Brendan handles all aspects of hardware procurement and
installation together with creating and supporting the infrastructures within
which the databases and programs operate. He also carries out most of the data
conversion and loading activities. When not busy on the above, Brendan develops
new system/programming techniques and searches out new business opportunities.
